Lauren Knox is a recent Oakland University alumna, graduating from the Honors College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and an English Minor. Her hard work ethic, spirit and talent have contributed to many projects at Oakland from acting to directing to stage combat and playwriting.

Some of her favorite roles have included Beatrice (Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing), Holga (After the Fall), Woman 3 (The Women of Lockerbie), an ensemble member in Bells are Ringing, a disciple in the Pageant Plays, Julia and Nina (The Good Doctor), Magda (The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue), and the hangdog man-pirate in Bloody Bess as a freshman. She tends to play the foreign characters, but embraces it as it gives her the opportunity to expand her craft by working on new dialects. Knox was also commissioned to write “A Dustland Fairytale: A Tribute to the Music of the Killers” by her peers for the student production last summer and wrote “For Such a Time as This” which was featured in the production of Pageant Plays in April 2011. For her acting accomplishments, Lauren competed in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Competition at the American College Theatre Festival several times and most recently received the Gittlen Achievement in Acting Award at the annual Matilda ceremony.

Although leaving OU was bittersweet, she feels lucky to be able to work under the direction of Karen Sheridan on another production. She loves working with Karen because of her organic and yet at times wacky and creative process. You wouldn’t know by her last name, but Lauren is Italian and grew up embracing that culture and all that goes along with it. Therefore, she is so excited to be a part of this production of ITALIAN AMERICAN RECONCILIATION, with such a wonderful team.

Lauren will appear as Katherine (and fight captain) in the Water Works’ Shakespeare in the Park production of Henry V this August. After that Lauren intends to move to Seattle or New York to pursue a fulfilling career in writing and acting.
