Michael Gillespie as Shelly "The Machine" Levine in "Glengarry Glen Ross" Featured

Epicenter Theatre Group is proud to announce that Michael Gillespie will be playing the role of Shelly "The Machine" Levine in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Michael Gillespie is a director, teacher and actor whose theatre work has involved scores of productions in many styles including dozens of musicals and operas.

He has been recognized for excellence in direction by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and his productions have been included in its regional festivals on a number of occasions.

He earned a Ph.D. in Drama at Stanford University, studied French literature at the Sorbonne and earned a Master’s degree in Speech and Theatre at Marquette University. He also served for many years as Director of Theatre at the University of Texas at Dallas and later as Head of the Theatre Program at Oakland University where he was named the first Paul and Doris Travis Professor of Theatre.

Some of his favorite roles as an actor include Martin Dysart in Equus, Feste in Twelfth Night, John in Oleanna, Ned Weeks in The Normal Heart, Man in Laughing Wild, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

Dr. Gillespie is a Teaching Member of Alexander Technique International and conducts workshops and classes in the technique for actors and singers at various performing arts institutions in the Great Lakes region. He recently taught the technique aboard ship in the Mediterranean on the faculty of the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea.

In 2011 Dr. Gillespie retired from Oakland University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. He can now be seen in Meadow Brook Theatre's The Constant Wife directed by none other than Karen Sheridan. You can see Michael perform starting March 20th through April 14th. Epicenter Theatre Group wishes to thank Michael for his outstanding work in Glengarry Glen Ross and looks forward to reuniting with him again in the near future.
